Although it may go without saying, if given the option, it is always better to buy organic. The decision is even more important in the event of some foods that have been found to have higher traces of pesticides and chemicals.
In the Spring of 2013, The Environment Working Group released a list of those fruits and vegetables dubbed the ‘Dirty Dozen’ that when tested had the highest residue of harmful pesticides. It is important to note that samples were all either washed or peeled before being tested and testing was conducted on a sample group of 48 conventionally grown fruits and veggies.
So if you are wondering what produce you should absolutely buy organic, here is the EWG’s ‘Dirty Dozen’ list:
- Sweet Bell Peppers
- Nectarines (imported)
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Hot Peppers
